Summary of the Service"Hakata" type buses are used for the longest Japanese overnight trips (1146 km), such as Tokyo Shinjuku ‹–› Fukuoka, which takes 14 hours and 20 minutes. The bus offers drinks, hot towels, a packed light meal service (bread and green tea), a toilet. In addition, there are passenger breaks of about 10 to 15 minutes at Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture and Kudamatsu service areas in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Food and drinks are available at both. Important notice with effect: The "Hakata" service was introduced the doubledecker bus in December 2009. There are three type of seats: premium, business and economy. Premium seats are equipped with private curtains, personal TVs, outlet plugs and wireless LANs for PC users, face towels, foot rests, and earplugs and massage seats upon request. History of the ServiceThe service was jointly started by the Keio Electric Railway company (now: Keio Bus) and the Nishi Nippon Railroad (now known as the Nishitetsu Group) in October 1990 with two buses a day. In 1994, it was rerouted to the Sanyo Expressway because of the shorter traveling time. However, airlines have reduced their basic domestic fares in recent years, and as a result, bus passenger numbers have been greatly reduced, causing Keio to withdraw in January 1999. Since then, Nishitetsu has been sole operator on this route.Timetables
